Mr. Francis joined our firm in 1967 and has been involved in most phases of patent, trademark, and copyright practice including foreign and domestic trademarks and patent preparation and prosecution. His vast experience is primarily in mechanical arts, licensing, seminars, validity and infringement studies and opinions, enforcement, litigation, advising, and counseling in intellectual property matters.
Mr. Francis received his B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the General Motors Institute (now Kettering University) in 1964 and received his Juris Doctor degree from the Law School of the University of Michigan in 1967.
Mr. Francis has been an Adjunct Professor teaching Patent Law since 1976 at the University of Detroit Law School and is a co-author of the textbook "Patent Law Including Trade Secrets-Copyrights-Trademarks," 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th Editions published by West Publishing Co. in 1981, 1987, 1995, 2002, and 2006.
He is admitted to the Michigan Bar, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and the United States Supreme Court.
