William J. Waugaman

Mr. Waugaman's practice includes all phases of patent, trademark, copyright, and trade secret law. His expertise is primarily in mechanical and electro-mechanical subject matter.

Mr. Waugaman has extensive experience in all phases of domestic and foreign patent and trademark application preparation and prosecution, including interferences and oppositions, and with infringement, validity, patentability, and registrability investigations and opinions. He is also experienced in counseling, enforcement, licensing, and litigation (including mini-trial) of intellectual property matters.

Mr. Waugaman began private practice of intellectual property law in 1958 in Chicago with Mueller & Aichele, and then joined the predecessor Detroit intellectual law firm of Barnes, Kisselle, Raisch & Choate.

Mr. Waugaman is a graduate of Cornell University, B.S., 1953; I. & L.R. and Mechanical Engineering and the United States Navy Class A Radio School. He received his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Michigan Law School in 1958.

Mr. Waugaman is licensed to practice law in Michigan and Illinois, before the United States Courts (E.D. Mich.), and is registered to practice before the United States Patent Office. He is a member of the State Bars of Michigan and Illinois, the American Bar Association, the American Intellectual Property Law Association, the Michigan Intellectual Property Law Association, and the Detroit Bar Association.

Mr. Waugaman serves as a Neutral for intellectual property law matters on the Commercial Arbitration Panel of the American Arbitration Association.
