Bill Waugaman Honored by Michigan State Bar for 50 Years
The Michigan State Bar honored Reising attorney Bill Waugaman for achieving the 50-year milestone in his legal career. Waugaman was included in a group of 174 attorneys who were sworn in during 1958. At that time, Eisenhower was president and Nixon was vice-president; the Alaska Statehood Act was signed into law; gasoline was 30 cents a gallon; a new house cost $18,000 and a new car cost $2,200; and Elvis Presley was drafted into the U.S. Army.

Earlier this year, the firm submitted its 1,000th electronic filing at the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Electronic filing is a significant time saver for Reising clients. Teaching Intellectual Property Law
Reising attorneys Jake Grove, Jim Stevens and Francis Fodale are teaching law classes during the '08-'09 school year. Grove is teaching trademark law and Stevens is teaching patent law at the University of Detroit Mercy Law School. Both were asked to teach again after last year's students gave them excellent reviews. Fodale is teaching a patent law clinic course at the Ave Maria School of Law. In this course students actually prepare and submit a patent application.

Jim Stevens and Jake Grove Represent the Firm at Mackinac Policy Conference
The Detroit Regional Chamber's Mackinac Policy Conference attracts more than 1,700 business leaders and policy makers from across Michigan. Attendees meet on Mackinac Island to network and discuss policy issues that could improve the environment for Michigan businesses. Many of the state's business and political leaders attend this conference. Jim Stevens and Jake Grove represented the firm at the conference this year.

Current Issues in Patent Prosecution
Several Reising attorneys attended a seminar entitled Latent Dangers in Patent Prosecution put on by the Patent Resources Group. This seminar dissected the Federal Circuit's rationale when reaching judgments in patent cases, and suggested practices that can be employed by patent attorneys when prosecuting a patent application. A Reising attorney was key in bringing the seminar to Michigan; and nearly seventy IP lawyers and patent agents benefited.

IP Law Discussion Moderator
Reising attorney and Michigan Super Lawyer, Jake Grove, moderated a panel discussion on IP Law in State Courts. This discussion was held during the IP Spring Seminar put on by the IP section of the State Bar in Lansing. Panelists included the Hon. Jessica Cooper, who was a circuit court judge in Oakland County and a judge on the Michigan Court of Appeals, and two other Michigan Super Lawyers -- Todd Mendel and Steven Susser.
